For the costumes in my music video I have decided to keep it plain and simple to go with the story. Ali who is the lead male will wear a white T-shirt and Jeans, everyone else will just where their own day to day casual clothes to keep the video realistic. There are no props because I feel that if there is to much then it takes away from the experence that I am trying to create and if that goes then my video looses itself slightly.
The experence I am trying to create to a realistic one, a relationship in school that changes someone. The more I physicly try to add the less real it becomes so most of the wow factor that a music video creates is going to be in my editing.

risk assessment
For the outside shots in wooded area I have to be aware of the following hazzards:
Branches falling, tripping and falling over objects on the ground.
For the ouside shots around water I have to be aware of the following hazzards:
Slipping, falling into the water, drowning and catching pneumonia.
For the inside shots I have to be aware of the following hazzards:
Slipping, tripping, falling, heavy equipment being droped on people and items being thrown.

Changes I have had to make
I have done some more research into the indoor filming and have discovered my biggest worry, the camera won't be able to see anything inside the disco even with the disco lights and if I have tourches etc. This discovery means that I now have to think about relocating but that shouldn't be that much of a problem beause in The Wanted's video there are a lot of outside shots. I am basically just going to make the video a little more real by having the most of the shots outside, this would make my video feel a whole lot more natural.

casting
For the main male part I will get Ali Baxter to play it because he has the skill and know how to pull of this part without to much trouble.
For the main female part I would am have Corinna Harrison play it because she is a drama student and this is an oportunity that I can not pass up on.

Location Shots
This first shot is of the north lawn, it has good shots of the sun when it is out and can be very dramatic.
A close-up of the end of the North Lawn.
This is the Sixth Form Centre where on Saturday there is a social where there are disco lights and loud music, this will be the club.
This is an area in the Sixth Form Centre where the drinks are handed out, this could be good for possible shots.
This is the hall that the couple will be hiding down and where the girl sees the guy with other women.
This is the doorway into the club that the main guy walks through.
A possible location for a dramatic shot.
The South Lawn which holds the same possibilities as the North Lawn.
Gordonstoun house where the outside i could have some shots of the two people together.
The other side of the South Lawn.

The story arc to my video
My video is going to be one of love, jealousy, pain and passion between a boy and a girl.
I am starting my video with a few establishing shots to set the tone and then a close- up of my main singer (male) singing.
From here it shows the main singer on a hill looking all thoughtfull and staring into nothing and then cuts to a shot from behind him walking into a club (I am thinking Gordonstoun house on a Saturday night), there will then be a few shots of him partying and dancing and some shots of the club to change the mood again to a more up beat sort of feel.
A POV shot of the guy getting pulled out of the main dance hall by the second main character (female) to a slightly better lit place where there is a shot of them from down the corridor of the two of them together but doesn't show anything going on.
I then thing I will have a shot of him walking down the corridor by himself looking all smug with the girl still there in the background and then have it cut to an arc shot of the main guy singing then cut to a close-up of his face singing.
I am thinking that I want a montage of shots here in the music gap, having a calender stop motion to show the days passing and some fast motion to show the sun setting.
It then cuts back to the club a few days on to show the guy with a different girl for a few seconds, then another girl, and another and another which tells the viewer that the guy gets around.
Jump cut to the girl seeing him with a different girl and her running away.
The main guy runs towards the camera trying to catch her to say he's sorry but he can't find her (different shots of him looking around) and he walks out the door in shame and sorrow.
It cuts back to an arc shot of the guy singing and all upset from his mistake.
It then cuts to the hill that the guy was sitting on in beginning and the girl coming up behind him, she sits down with him and they look at each other and start talking, they start to smile and stand up, it cuts to a close-up of their hands coming together and then a shot of them walking off together.
In short, they fall in love, he cheats on her and she sees, he is sad and she finds him and forgives him and they fall back in love and walk off together.

Defining the Key Elements
For my video I am going to try and stick what is normal and usually seen in Dance/Pop videos.
I have to show a club or some sort of party in my video because they are shown in almost every other video out there from Dance to Rock, these party scenes usually build up and show the energy and power of the song and expresses the nature of the singers or even dancers if there are any, it is also a good mood setter.
I do plan to have only one male singer in my video even though the original song is sung by a boy band, this shouldn't effect the outcome in any way because I plan for him to only sing the chorus of the piece which is sung by the whole grup together at once but if I film and edit it right then I should be able to make it work.
Girls are always found in music videos these days, whether they are actually shown or just sung about. In my video I am hoping to have about four girls that are shown of a few seconds, then the one main girl that the song is wraped around and lastly however many girls appear in the background in the party scene.
Lights are an important element in making a music video and it will be quite difficult to find anywhere in my video where I can fit lights in without making the whole thing look weird, I think that the lighing in the party will have to be enough and hopefully will be bright enough to see the dancing as well.
The camera shots in my video will be standard to any other music video out there, I will have everything from close-ups to extreme long shots and might also try some arc shots and such like to see if it works with the music.
The editing is quite important in Dance/Pop videos because that is where the magic is performed, fast and slow motion is a good effect to place with this music because it has both fast moment and slow moments and it can also change the mood of a piece. Colour changing is a good effect but not normal for this genre of music so i don't know if I will be using it, other forms off CGI is used in this genre but I simply don't have the technology.
The costumes for the piece, not easy to pick out but I have an idea for a simple layout of white T-shirt and baggy jeans for the guy and skinny jeans and tank top for the girl. This layout of dress sticks with the genre quite well and does not exploiting anyone involved.

shooting scrip for and shot list for the video
From what I write down here to the actual filming I will chop and change the different camera angles and actions so this is just to help me get a rough idea.
The sun goes down (shot of campus, no one in shot, long shot)
The stars come out (shot of campus, no one in shot, long shot)
And all that counts (shot of campus, no one in shot, long shot)
Is here and now (shot of campus, no one in shot, long shot)
My universe will never be the same (shot of campus, no one in shot, close-up)
I'm glad you came (fade to black, close-up)
(montage of shots around campus, mix of both long shots and close-ups with mid shots and low and high angle shots as well)
You cast a spell on me, spell on me (Singer, close-up of face)
You hit me like the sky fell on me, fell on me (continued)
And I decided you look well on me, well on me (cut to shot of him posing over a landscape, over the shoulder shot)
So let's go somewhere no-one else can see, you and me (different shot of posing over landscape, side on mid shot)
Turn the lights out now (shot from behind walking into a club, mid shot)
Now I'll take you by the hand (shot of partying in a club, mid shot)
Hand you another drink (different shot of partying in a club, close-up)
Drink it if you can (Shot of drinking, close-up)
Can you spend a little time, (getting pulled out of club by a girl, POV shot)
Time is slipping away from us so stay, (shot down a hall of guy and girl together, long shot)
Stay with me I can make, (guy starts walking back up the hall with a grin on his face, long shot to mid shot)
Make you glad you came (jump cuts of the guy walking up the hall)
The sun goes down (Guy singing, arc shot)
The stars come out (round into a low angle shot)
And all that counts (swings back up to an arc shot round him completly)
Is here and now (continued)
My universe will never be the same (close-up)
I'm glad you came (close-up, cut out)
I'm glad you came (close-up, fade out)
(Monatge of shots, mix of both long shots and close-ups with mid shots and low and high angle shots as well)
You cast a spell on me, spell on me (different girl, close-up with him, mid shot)

Stay with me I can make, (walking through a door, long shot)
Make you glad you came (door shuts and fade out)
The sun goes down (close-up of guy singing)
The stars come out (still singing)
And all that counts (still singing)
Is here and now (still singing)

So glad you came (sits down with him, shot continued)
I'm glad you came (they hug, shot continued)
I'm glad you came (different shot of hugging, mid shot)
The sun goes down (shot of them getting up, long shot)
The stars come out (and turning to each other, continued)

Channel 4
I went onto the channel 4 wesite and checked out E4 aswell. I found out that they target their audiences for their adverts and videos and music at both men and women aged between 18 and 24, this is because they are the largest amount of people to lisson and watch to the latest media so they want the biggest amount possible to watch them. I could possibly fit this sort of thing into my video by making it relevent to younger ages such as 18 by having the actors and singers in it the same age group.

Institutions that might produce, distribute and exhibit my music video
Apple could be on of the institutions to distibute and exhibit my music but not produce it.
YouTube is another website where my music video can be exhibited but not produced or distributed.
Nick Bartleet is a director of music videos, he could possibly produce my music video and then it could be sold online in places like iTunes.

Audience research
I went round a few people in my class and asked them some simple questions such as "What music do you like and why?" and "Why do like the music videos of these genres?"
Rachael Gibson: All types of music, mainly rap and hip-hop.
It is emotional and has a good beat
Distracts you from life and takes you away, you can relax into it.
Ella Brolly: Everything apart from metal but prefers foke and drum and bass.
Makes you feel happy, its fun to listion to
It is interesting and has lots of clever editing in them.
Ali Baxter: R&B, 90's rock and foke most but isn't to fust really.
Likes the sexy ladys and the upbeat rhythem
It lets out emotion and culture and is also quite fun.

Mood Board
I have selected many different themes in this mood board but hope to use all of them. It has aspects of rave and party which some summer to show the fun and happyness side, it has relationships to show the love and it has people alone to show the lack or longing for love. If i could get all of these into my video i could create an emotional yet enjoyable video.

Black Eyed Peas: The Time
(The first picture is on the top left hand side and works along to the right and then down a row and starts from the left again and so on)
1. This first picture shows a man standing in an ally, the costume and lighting are main attraction in this particular part of the music video. The Background lighting is bright but is not taking focus away from the fullness of the clothes, the location isn't anything special here either because the makers are only wanting to establish and using an ally way at the start and then moving onto the later locations make the other location look better and there for progressing the video visually to the viewer. It is a long shot at the moment but zooms into a close-up which connects the viewer with the singer.
2. This next picture is the first real sight of the club that the viewer gets, it is darker than the ally way but the light shining through gives the impression of a club, the costumes are pretty standard to what you would expect people to where to a club. It is almost getting the viewer ready and setting a faster tempo for the song.
3. This is the introduction of the female singer to the music video, this shows the style of clothing that could be worn in clubs and parties, the lighting is focused to the centre where the singer is and her clothing reflects some of the light so that she catches the viewers eye. The location is in a club with people either side of a centre path which the woman walks down, here some simple camera shots are used such as mid shots and they leave most of the work to the editing which gives it a weird old film effect with the colour still there which makes it looks techy.
4. This shot is of a large group of people danceing with different people taking turns to show off, this brings attention to them and the video to keep people interested. The camera angles here range from mid shot to close-up to long shot, again the wow factor is left to the editing whichkeeps some of the old film effect but also just ups the brightness and lowers the contrast. The costumes are a mixture of bright and dark which makes the space behind them look much bigger than it actually is, they location is still in a club with bright flashing lights and lazers etc.
5. This shot is a low angle shot of some of the main singers and preformers with their hands in the air, this makes the viewer think of a rave and connects with them more with it and makes them feel like they are doing kore than just watching it. The costumes are the same as before which shows consistancy in the piece, the editing is pretty simple so as not to take away from the music and visual experence of the video.
6. This is a general extreme long shot over the club, this is ment to show the viewer how amazing the party is and what a great time they are having. You can't really what is being worn in this shot but the lighting is bright and casts a sort of shadow over the crowd, this also shows the view how huge the club actually is, as you can see in the picture there is also smoke pouring down from the which adds more to the mood.
7. This is taken from outside the club, this is a sort of shot that could be used to cut back to someone singing in a studio but instead they decided to put a bit of story in. This is where the man in this shot holds some sort of tablet infront of a drawing on the wall and then it is editied to life and does a little move, this happens throughout the video and shows all the "Black Eyed Peas" as cartoons. The lighting is quite bright but it is natural sunlight instead of club lights which is quite a contrast. The costumes are the same as the ally way guy for the guy holding the tablet and all the animated figures are wearing their own little costume. Lots of long shots and mid shots are used in this. I think i might use moments like this in my piece to take it back to the singer in a studio or even outside.
8. This shot is back to the club, bright lights and a jumping crowd give an impression of a climax coming soon and as the camera shows long and extreme long shots of the crowd and a few blured dancers it really gives a feel of excitement and passion. You an't really see what the people are wearing in this but its just what they were wearing before, the editing lowers the contrast a wee bit but this is made up for by the huge lights. I think that i could mabey use this sort of shot in my piece to bring in some of that feeling.
9. This last shot is almost the same as the first, this is ment to represent the viewer backing away from the party and they video in general. The costume here is the same as the beginning and still has the same effect that it does in the beginning. The editing and camera shots are again same as the start but the lighting is different, it is more like a sunset than a sunrise sort of light which shows that its been a whole day and represents you getting lost in the music. I could mabey use this idea in my piece to show sides of something or a lap of time.

Letter to "The Wanted" via Facebook
Dear Sir or Madam
I am a student from Gordonstoun School in Scotland who is taking Media Studies as an A Level and I am hoping to do my final coursework piece which is a music video on your song "Glad you came"
I would only be using the audio from the song and be using my own film to create the visual aspects of my coursework so i hope there will be no problem.
A reply back would be very helpful
Many thanks
Alasdair Oram

Research into similar videos
The Black Eyed Peas do quite a lot of Dance/Pop videos and one really good example is "Can't Get Enough". This video is set in and around Japan in many clubs, skyscrapers and on the streets, there is only one obvious point in the video which is at the end where they are in a studio filming on a set. This makes the whole video more involving and more real.
The clothes in this video are quite common to the "Black Eyed Peas" look, they where blacks and whites (and colours near these) and shiny plastics and metals which show up in the light and reflect colours. The video uses a pre-recorded soundtrack with film footage of mouthing over the top to give it a the "real feel". The soundtrack used has been auto-tuned to give it a more digital effect to it.
The editing in this film is top quality, they uses jump cut but when putting it together they keep it to the beat so that it looks in time. In this video they use everything from fades to fast motion and there is no holding back on what they can do.
Lady GaGa's "Bad Romance" is quite different to the "Black Eyed Peas" song because it is set out in more on a messed up way. The lighting in this is very bright and consists of lots of whites and not so many dark colours, the costumes are all different in their own way to make it more unreal with different shapes and colours and colours. The whole thing is filmed in a studio on a set which is made out to be futuristic and clean with meses with the point of the song. The music and singing in this is pre-recorded which is quite common for these sort of videos and it has quite a up beat rhythem with a solid steady base. The Editing is quite special because it does not always keep in time with the beat which is not normal for a Dance/Pop video, the shots are quite normal, using mid shots and long shots as well as close-ups and using mostly simple editing such as fading.

My final choice
For my final choice i have decided to pick the song "Glad You Came" by "The Wanted" I picked this song because it has quite a quick tempo and shouldn't be to restricted when it comes to filming, the only problems i might have with it is that it is more or a summer tune than a winter music video but if i plan my filming time well then i hopefully have no problems.
This is a Dance/Pop music video, these usually have a strong beat with one or more people singing aswell as the background dance music. They are mostly quite colourful videos and use loads of different shots such as close-ups, mid shots and low-angle shots.
Style is another important factor in these videos and it is important that the main singer or singers look good visually.

first idea
"Replay" is a song performed by Iyaz. It is the first single released from his album Replay, which was released on 8 June 2010.
It is classed as a mix of POP and R&B, most other videos in this area of music use light and colourful backgrounds and lots of mixed random shots.
