Apple could be on of the institutions to distibute and exhibit my music but not produce it.
YouTube is another website where my music video can be exhibited but not produced or distributed.
Nick Bartleet is a director of music videos, he could possibly produce my music video and then it could be sold online in places like iTunes.

Audience research
I went round a few people in my class and asked them some simple questions such as "What music do you like and why?" and "Why do like the music videos of these genres?"
Rachael Gibson: All types of music, mainly rap and hip-hop.
It is emotional and has a good beat
Distracts you from life and takes you away, you can relax into it.
Ella Brolly: Everything apart from metal but prefers foke and drum and bass.
Makes you feel happy, its fun to listion to
It is interesting and has lots of clever editing in them.
Ali Baxter: R&B, 90's rock and foke most but isn't to fust really.
Likes the sexy ladys and the upbeat rhythem
It lets out emotion and culture and is also quite fun.

Mood Board
I have selected many different themes in this mood board but hope to use all of them. It has aspects of rave and party which some summer to show the fun and happyness side, it has relationships to show the love and it has people alone to show the lack or longing for love. If i could get all of these into my video i could create an emotional yet enjoyable video.

Black Eyed Peas: The Time
(The first picture is on the top left hand side and works along to the right and then down a row and starts from the left again and so on)
1. This first picture shows a man standing in an ally, the costume and lighting are main attraction in this particular part of the music video. The Background lighting is bright but is not taking focus away from the fullness of the clothes, the location isn't anything special here either because the makers are only wanting to establish and using an ally way at the start and then moving onto the later locations make the other location look better and there for progressing the video visually to the viewer. It is a long shot at the moment but zooms into a close-up which connects the viewer with the singer.
2. This next picture is the first real sight of the club that the viewer gets, it is darker than the ally way but the light shining through gives the impression of a club, the costumes are pretty standard to what you would expect people to where to a club. It is almost getting the viewer ready and setting a faster tempo for the song.
3. This is the introduction of the female singer to the music video, this shows the style of clothing that could be worn in clubs and parties, the lighting is focused to the centre where the singer is and her clothing reflects some of the light so that she catches the viewers eye. The location is in a club with people either side of a centre path which the woman walks down, here some simple camera shots are used such as mid shots and they leave most of the work to the editing which gives it a weird old film effect with the colour still there which makes it looks techy.
4. This shot is of a large group of people danceing with different people taking turns to show off, this brings attention to them and the video to keep people interested. The camera angles here range from mid shot to close-up to long shot, again the wow factor is left to the editing whichkeeps some of the old film effect but also just ups the brightness and lowers the contrast. The costumes are a mixture of bright and dark which makes the space behind them look much bigger than it actually is, they location is still in a club with bright flashing lights and lazers etc.
5. This shot is a low angle shot of some of the main singers and preformers with their hands in the air, this makes the viewer think of a rave and connects with them more with it and makes them feel like they are doing kore than just watching it. The costumes are the same as before which shows consistancy in the piece, the editing is pretty simple so as not to take away from the music and visual experence of the video.
6. This is a general extreme long shot over the club, this is ment to show the viewer how amazing the party is and what a great time they are having. You can't really what is being worn in this shot but the lighting is bright and casts a sort of shadow over the crowd, this also shows the view how huge the club actually is, as you can see in the picture there is also smoke pouring down from the which adds more to the mood.
7. This is taken from outside the club, this is a sort of shot that could be used to cut back to someone singing in a studio but instead they decided to put a bit of story in. This is where the man in this shot holds some sort of tablet infront of a drawing on the wall and then it is editied to life and does a little move, this happens throughout the video and shows all the "Black Eyed Peas" as cartoons. The lighting is quite bright but it is natural sunlight instead of club lights which is quite a contrast. The costumes are the same as the ally way guy for the guy holding the tablet and all the animated figures are wearing their own little costume. Lots of long shots and mid shots are used in this. I think i might use moments like this in my piece to take it back to the singer in a studio or even outside.
8. This shot is back to the club, bright lights and a jumping crowd give an impression of a climax coming soon and as the camera shows long and extreme long shots of the crowd and a few blured dancers it really gives a feel of excitement and passion. You an't really see what the people are wearing in this but its just what they were wearing before, the editing lowers the contrast a wee bit but this is made up for by the huge lights. I think that i could mabey use this sort of shot in my piece to bring in some of that feeling.
9. This last shot is almost the same as the first, this is ment to represent the viewer backing away from the party and they video in general. The costume here is the same as the beginning and still has the same effect that it does in the beginning. The editing and camera shots are again same as the start but the lighting is different, it is more like a sunset than a sunrise sort of light which shows that its been a whole day and represents you getting lost in the music. I could mabey use this idea in my piece to show sides of something or a lap of time.

Letter to "The Wanted" via Facebook
Dear Sir or Madam
I am a student from Gordonstoun School in Scotland who is taking Media Studies as an A Level and I am hoping to do my final coursework piece which is a music video on your song "Glad you came"
I would only be using the audio from the song and be using my own film to create the visual aspects of my coursework so i hope there will be no problem.
A reply back would be very helpful
Many thanks
Alasdair Oram

Research into similar videos
The Black Eyed Peas do quite a lot of Dance/Pop videos and one really good example is "Can't Get Enough". This video is set in and around Japan in many clubs, skyscrapers and on the streets, there is only one obvious point in the video which is at the end where they are in a studio filming on a set. This makes the whole video more involving and more real.
The clothes in this video are quite common to the "Black Eyed Peas" look, they where blacks and whites (and colours near these) and shiny plastics and metals which show up in the light and reflect colours. The video uses a pre-recorded soundtrack with film footage of mouthing over the top to give it a the "real feel". The soundtrack used has been auto-tuned to give it a more digital effect to it.
The editing in this film is top quality, they uses jump cut but when putting it together they keep it to the beat so that it looks in time. In this video they use everything from fades to fast motion and there is no holding back on what they can do.
Lady GaGa's "Bad Romance" is quite different to the "Black Eyed Peas" song because it is set out in more on a messed up way. The lighting in this is very bright and consists of lots of whites and not so many dark colours, the costumes are all different in their own way to make it more unreal with different shapes and colours and colours. The whole thing is filmed in a studio on a set which is made out to be futuristic and clean with meses with the point of the song. The music and singing in this is pre-recorded which is quite common for these sort of videos and it has quite a up beat rhythem with a solid steady base. The Editing is quite special because it does not always keep in time with the beat which is not normal for a Dance/Pop video, the shots are quite normal, using mid shots and long shots as well as close-ups and using mostly simple editing such as fading.

My final choice
For my final choice i have decided to pick the song "Glad You Came" by "The Wanted" I picked this song because it has quite a quick tempo and shouldn't be to restricted when it comes to filming, the only problems i might have with it is that it is more or a summer tune than a winter music video but if i plan my filming time well then i hopefully have no problems.
This is a Dance/Pop music video, these usually have a strong beat with one or more people singing aswell as the background dance music. They are mostly quite colourful videos and use loads of different shots such as close-ups, mid shots and low-angle shots.
Style is another important factor in these videos and it is important that the main singer or singers look good visually.

first idea
"Replay" is a song performed by Iyaz. It is the first single released from his album Replay, which was released on 8 June 2010.
It is classed as a mix of POP and R&B, most other videos in this area of music use light and colourful backgrounds and lots of mixed random shots.
