Looking at how star image is used
It seems to be a running trend with boy bands to have a picture of them on the cover of the album, for my album cover I do plan to do this as seen in my first draft of my digipack. The faces of the band are visible on the covers of these albums so I think that that should be a rule for me. They are all quite basic covers, containing the band and a background with the band name and album name so this is a must for me. The name of the band or album is sometimes in quite controversial colours compared to the colours in the picture, this makes it stand out more and I think this would look quite good on my album cover.
Rules
1. Have a picture of band on front.
2. Have the face(s) visible on the front cover.
3. Basic cover with band member(s), band name and album name.
4. Possible controversial colours of either band name or album name or both.

First Draft of digipack
I now understand that the longer picture on top will be upside down in the real thing so I will have turn it over so it is facing the right way.

Investigation into how musicians promote themselves
This video of the Black Eyed Peas would have been shown on TV and has now been uploaded to you tube, these forms of promotion means that they reach out to vast numbers of people around the world.
This web page says that the Peas used the song "Meet Me Halfway" was released as a promotional video to the countdown of there (past) latest album. This form of advertisement is quite clever because it means that the people that listen to it will want to hear the other new songs that come out and buy the album.
The Wanted use these methods and others such as joining social networking sites such as Facebook and twitter so from there they can promote their upcoming ablums and new releces without spending a penny.
